Articles
This article looks at Neurobiology and the Brain focusing on the main brain structures and their place in a psychotherapeutic approach.
This article on the Life Stages of personal growth and development presents and summarises the work Erik Erikson (1997) and Jay Haley (1993). These works are very useful for helping clients become aware of these life stages and experiences in life so they navigate through the rite of passage between each one. Client often present at this junctures in life – young people will present when they are navigating through the process of developing self-identity and re-engaging with their parents on a peer/adult level so moving more productively into young adulthood. Some client present at mid-life around the age of 40 when they are reviewing their relationships and purpose in life, work and future security. Therapy marks that rite of passage from one stage to a new one and so the therapist facilitates that process. I also briefly present the Confirmation Model (Richards & Richards, 2021) that explores the significant attachment figures that facilitate rite of passage and confirmation for the individual.
Attachment Theory and Mental Disorders explore the different attachment style of Bowlby and Ainsworth and the kinds of mental disorders that can manifest during early childhood, adolescence and adulthood with some guidance for therapist interventions.
Our Basic Needs and Motivational Goals are presented here such as Grawe, Panksepp & Biven, Freud and Maslow and then how the therapist can develop an approach to help the client achieve their goals. Consistency and Congruency Theories are also explored here.
Carl Rogers Stages of Process 1, adapted from his book On Becoming a Person outlines the insightful stages and descriptions of the fluid process of self-actualisation of the individual. One of the most important books for Person Centred Therapy I recommend a reading of this book every few years to re-engage the therapist into that all-important groove of life-changing therapy.
Therapist Interventions looks at the many strategies and approaches for therapy based on Grawe (2004, 2007).
Disorders and Neuroscience presents a number of disorders like PTSD, GAD, OCD and Panic Disorder and how they are characterised by neuroscientific processes.
This article explores the Consultation, Assessment, Planning, Session Content, Results and Limitations of the Therapeutic Process. Ideal for students or beginner practitioners want to develop their process and embed skills.
The Unconscious Mind, Dream Work and Active Imagination in Therapy article explores the nature of the unconscious, superconscious and conscious minds and how dream analysis and active imagination can help achieve your goals in practical life.
Modalities, Language, Therapist Techniques and Session Exploration explores the work of Bandler & Grinder from their books The Structure of Magic. Their work casts positive insights into how people communicate and forms the basis of neuro-linguistic programming and hypnotherapy that is helpful for all therapists to help their clients communicate more effectively, develop more harmonious relationships and achieve their goals.
